Journalists of the British newspaper The Sunday Times set a new Guinness record for distance run on a single tank of fuel. Their car, a diesel VW Passat BlueMotion, was able to overcome without refueling 1525.63 miles or 2456.97 km.
The "Passat" arrived from the British Kent to the south of France with 77.25 liters of fuel and went back. Fuel only ended near Calais. This run corresponds to the distance between London and Spain Malaga, and from New York to Los Angeles on a car you can drive with one refueling.
Record Car is a serial, but the most economical modification of the VW Passat in the lineup. The machine is equipped with a 1.6-liter turbodiesel capacity of 105 horsepower, a system of "stop-start", tires with reduced rolling resistance, and also has improved aerodynamics and reduced ground clearance. According to Volkswagen, this machine uses an average of 4.4 liters of fuel per hundred kilometers, but during the journey, the average consumption of diesel was even lower - 3.14 liters per hundred kilometers.
Let us recall that in 2006 a similar run was arranged for the car Jaguar XJ. A luxury sedan drove a little more than a thousand miles. In this case, the machine was equipped with six-cylinder engine capacity of 2.7 207 horsepower.
