Hybrid Infiniti Was Taught to Warn Pedestrians of the Approaching Car

Infiniti equipped sedan M35h with a special system, warning pedestrians of the approach of the machine, if it moves the electric range. The premiere model for the U.S. market was part of a motor show in Los Angeles and scheduled to start its sales until the following year.

Sedan Infiniti M35h can move almost silently with an electric motor at speeds up to 100 kilometers per hour. In this connection it became necessary to warn pedestrians of the approaching vehicle to avoid accidents. The Japanese company equipped the new product with a system called Approaching Vehicle Sound for Pedestrians (VSP). It operates at speeds from zero to 32 miles per hour and then back on when slowing down at 24 miles per hour.

The system consists of a computer-controlled sound synthesizer, transmitting sound to a special speaker built into the front bumper.

Explaining the reason why for the system VSP was chosen such speed limit, the company reported that at 32 kilometers per hour and higher car produces a lot of "road" noise.

Sedan Infiniti M35h equipped with a hybrid powerplant which combines the 306-strong six-cylinder engine with 3.5 liter, 68-hp electric motor, lithium-ion batteries, and seven-speed automatic transmission. From zero to one hundred kilometers per hour such a machine accelerates in 5.9 seconds and fuel consumption in combined cycle is 7.3 liters per hundred kilometers.
